Fairfax, VA – Asian Community Service Center will present an Asian Fair on Saturday and Sunday, May 8 and 9 2010 at the Luther Jackson Middle School next to the Chinese supermarket Great Wall Supermarket.
May 2010 is the tenth anniversary since May 1990 when President Bush designated May Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month. May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. The majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.
The best way to celebrate the Asian Heritage Month is to share with our communities the long cherished Asian traditions and values. The May Asian Fair offers live Asian performances, parade with dragon and lion dances, handicrafts, children's games, Chinese language and cooking workshop, variety of Asian food, and also Lantern Gate and Dragon mold will be created to bring more funs!
The two days event offers the local communities a great way to celebrate cultural diversity and promote local businesses at this festive time. Local elected officials including Congressman Connolly for District 11 will make greeting remarks at the opening ceremony.
